Baby Books
Reading is one of the most important speech and language activities you can do with your child. Therefore, it is crucial to start the amazing habit of reading early with some great baby books.
Also, babies are learning language from day one of life! Exposure to books (pre-literacy skill), vocabulary, grammar, and story structure is actually necessary!
Below you will find a short list of some of my favorite baby books. I have A LOT of favorites for many reasons. The books below are great baby books since they are durable, colorful, a good variety of vocabulary, and of course...wonderful stories!

Shopping Tips
1. Page Durability
Little ones chew and tear most books. Buying a new book to then have it destroyed in 20 minutes can be frustrating.
Make sure the book has thick pages. Board books are your best bet. Luckily, most baby books are board books.
2. Pictures, Lots of Pictures
Babies can't read and story structure at this age isn't crucial. Vocabulary and exposure to books is really the most important. Therefore, you want lots and lots of pictures.
3. Variety of Textures
Touch and feel books are MY FAVORITES. They engage babies AND babies learn best when mixing language with motor skills. The touch and feel books also keep the attention of little ones for longer too.
Variety of textures is also key. Try to find books that are made out of different textures such as "fur," "cloth," "crinkly," etc...
4. Size
Buy a variety of sizes to keep it interesting. (There is a concept lesson right there too, big vs small.)
Big books grab the attention of my son, but he loves to read his small books in the car.
How To Read To Your Baby
Believe it or not...there is a right and wrong way to read to your child. At this age, you don't have to read a book word for word. Actually, I don't recommend it at all!
Instead, it is important to get your child interested in reading, looking at pictures, pointing to pictures, turning pages, and listening and learning a variety of vocabulary nouns and verbs.
