These speech therapy hidden pictures are one of my favorite low-prep, high-impact activities for articulation and language therapy—especially during the spring months when students need something fresh but predictable.

They’re interactive, motivating, and easy to adapt across goals and ages. Most importantly, they allow you to get a lot of meaningful practice in a short amount of time.

No setup. No laminating. No reinventing the session.

Articulation

• Single word: Name the picture before clicking

• Sentence: Create a sentence using the target word
• Conversation: Use the revealed image as a story starter

Because students want to reveal the picture, repetitions happen naturally.

Language Goals

Vocabulary

• Function: Name what the object is used for before clicking
• Category: Identify the category or find another item that belongs
• Description: Describe attributes before selecting the picture
• Divergent naming: Name additional items in the same category

Grammar

• Create sentences targeting:
  • Pronouns
  • Verb tense
  • Subject–verb agreement
  • Expanded noun phrases

The same slide can be reused multiple times while shifting the linguistic focus.

Prepositional Concepts

These activities are especially effective for prepositions.

Take turns giving directions such as:

• “Click the picture under the apple.”
• “Find the image next to the cat.”

This allows students to:

• Process auditory directions
• Apply spatial vocabulary
• Receive immediate visual feedback

For higher-level language work:

• Select one image
• Create a one-sentence story including:
  • Who
  • Where
  • What happened

Example:
“She brought her lunchbox to school.”

You can expand this into sequencing, retell, or narrative extension as needed.
